Owls Come Out Swinging

Citrus College exploded with a five-run second inning that helped secure a 7-2 victory over Bakersfield College Tuesday afternoon. The Owls improve to 20-11 overall and 6-3 in conference, while the Renegades fall to 18-13 overall and 5-3 in conference. 

The Owls had eight hits from seven different batters. Leah Morales would lead the Owls in hits and go (2-for-4) from the plate and score two runs. Kylie Ruiz and Rylie Praytor would add a hit and have two RBIs a piece. While Madelyn Hajj, Samantha Meyndert, Marissa Ramirez, and Jasani Zavalza would also all have a hit. Caitlin Kelley was in the circle for the Owls and picked up her eleventh win of the year improving her record to 11-5. 

The Owls wasted no time in putting their first run on the board as Madelyn Hajj hit a two out double before Samantha Meyndert hit a single, scoring Hajj. The Owls would take full control of the game in the second inning with some timely hits and two Renegades errors that resulted in five runs giving the Owls a 6-0 lead. 

Bakersfield struggled to recover and would be scoreless until they posted their only two runs of the game in the fourth inning. The owls would add another run in the fifth and cruise to victory over the visiting Renegades. 

The Owls will be back in action on Thursday for another Western State Conference game against Los Angeles Mission College. College of the Canyons will host the game. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
