Renegade Athletics 2021 Spring I and Spring II Sports Update

Bakersfield, CA – In order to maximize options for Renegade Athletics, Bakersfield College has officially opted-in to compete in the Spring II season as outlined in the California Community College Athletics Association (CCCAA) Contingency Plan set forth on July 9, 2020. As the Spring I and Spring II seasons of competition approach, the decision to compete will also come in accordance with the state of California and Kern County Public Health COVID-19 guidelines.

The delayed Spring I (Fall) sports season will begin in March and Renegade Athletics will go forward competing in the following sports: Women's Volleyball, Men's Soccer, Men's Basketball and Women's Basketball. The department has decided to opt-out of the following Spring I sports: Football, Wrestling, Women's Soccer, Women's Golf and M/W Cross Country. Renegade Athletics opted-in for all sports in the Spring I season in December, however due to the lack of opponents to schedule, the decision was made to opt-out of the previously mentioned Spring I (Fall) sports.

Spring I schedules will be released shortly on GoGades.com as they become available. Due to county health guidelines and out of an abundance of caution, fans will not be allowed to watch any Renegade athletics events in-person at the current time. Fans may use GoGades.com and follow the official department social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) to catch up on event status, results and to watch live-streams, if available.

Those Spring I sports (except football) that are no longer competing in a Spring I season will have the opportunity to compete in two (2) scrimmages before the end of June 2021. Football will have the opportunity to hold 15 padded practices with no more than three involving 50% live-contact.

The abbreviated Spring II (Spring) sports include Baseball, Softball, Beach Volleyball, Men's Golf, Swimming, Men's and Women's Tennis and Men's and Women's Track and Field. Spring II schedules will also be released as they become available.

Renegade Athletics, and the rest of the CCCAA came to a halt on March 19, 2020 with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. On November 6 the CCCAA Board of Directors voted on to move forward with the Contingency Plan approved earlier in the summer, which provides CCCAA member institutions a framework for return to competition in the spring, while also providing decision-making guidance for institutions. The board also approved a motion to provide student-athletes a waiver of eligibility for any CCCAA competition during the 2020-21 athletic year in order to support the success, safety, and well-being of student-athletes.
