Vaqueros pull out a 3-2 Victory

The GCC baseball team improved to 12-4 Wednesday night with a 3-2 win over visiting Bakersfield College at Stengel Field. James Giambalvo earned his second save of the week by facing four batters in the eighth and ninth innings and striking out two. Starting pitcher Marco Quintinar gave the Vaqs five strong innings, allowing just one run and four hits and striking out six. Max DeAmicis came in for Quintanar and pitched two strong innings allowing a run on two hits and keeping the Renegades at bay.
Sophomore Cristian Montes paced the Glendale offense with three hits including a run scoring double to get the Vaqs on the board in the first inning. Troy Viola and Beau O'Connell also had hits for GCC with Montes adding a stolen base to the box score.
Glendale is now on the road for the remaining games of the week, today at Oxnard College at 2 pm and Saturday at Moorpark College at 1 pm. The start Western State Conference play next Thursday March 9 at home against Citrus College at 2 pm and then home Saturday March 11 at 1 pm against Antelope Valley College.
