(Ventura, CA) Four teams – Mt. SAC, Moorpark, Ventura and Bakersfield – battled the elements at Ventura Harbor, as the Mounties dropped two matches Friday (May 21) afternoon.

The Mounties (1-9), who hosted the four-team event, lost to Moorpark, 4-1, and Bakersfield, 3-2.

In other matches, Ventura (7-1) lost its first match of the season to Moorpark, 4-1 and defeated Bakersfield, 4-1.

Bakersfield (2-5) defeated Mt. SAC and lost to Ventura, while Moorpark (5-2) was 2-0 on the day with wins over Ventura and Mt. SAC.

"It was a challenging day for all teams, due to 30 mph winds in Ventura Harbor," Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball coach Danielle Diaz said. "Our match against Bakersfield was tight, but we unfortunately couldn't pull out a win.

"I'm proud of our 4's pair, Bristol Christelman and Elizabeth Thomas for winning both matches (Friday).

The 4's pair of Christelman/Thomas was the only pairs to pick up a win against Moorpark in straight sets, 21-15, 21-14, while also winning against Bakersfield, 21-15, 21-14.

The 1's, Jay Jaramillo/Daniela Serna, which lost two close matches (18-21, 17-21) against Moorpark, was the only other pairs to record a win against Bakersfield, (21-11, 21-16).

The 2's (Natalie Caravantes/Alyssa Aleman), 3's (Alexandra Euston/Gaby Vatkin) and 5's (Emma King and Raeven Pugh) all lost in three sets against Bakersfield.

The season concludes Friday (May 28) with the pair's championship, also at Ventura Harbor.
