Short Handed Dons Pick up Wins Over Saddleback and Bakersfield

SANTA ANA, Calif. – Despite having to forfeit a set in both of its contests on Friday, the Santa Ana beach volleyball team picked up a couple hard fought wins to improve to 3-4 overall this season.

The Dons first took on Saddleback College in an Orange Empire Conference matchup at the Huntington Beach Newland Courts. Although Santa Ana's top pair dropped its match, the Dons prevailed after taking matches two through four. The forfeit in match number five made it 3-2 final score in favor of the Dons.

Karissa Mumford and Erisa Pooee were huge for the Dons, going 2-0 in the three spot while Jasmin Cardona and Destiny Torres teamed up to go undefeated as the number four team.

SAC's top team, Faaaliga Mikaele and Naomi Ruiz, went 1-1 with a convincing 21-14, 21-17 win against Bakersfield. The Dons two's, composed of Uchenna Ozokwo and Hannah DeGrasse, also finished 1-1, defeating their opponents from Saddleback 21-15, 21-18.
