Beach Volleyball Clinches First Ever Berth to CCCAA Team State Championships

TORRANCE, Calif. – For the first time in the short history of the beach volleyball program, El Camino College is headed to the California Community College Beach Volleyball Team State Championships following a pair of 5-0 sweeps over Bakersfield and Cypress in the CCCAA Regionals on Tuesday morning at the ECC Sand Volleyball Courts.

The Warriors, who have participated in beach volleyball since the sport was introduced by the CCCAA in 2015, make their first trip to the team event after drawing the No. 4 seed in Southern California.

On Tuesday, the Warriors opened the regional with a 5-0 victory over No. 12 seeded Bakersfield. They dropped just one set in the five matches played to get in the driver's seat with a 1-0 record on the day.

The Renegades then upset No. 5 seeded Cypress, 3-2, leaving the possibility of the Warriors advancing without having to win their match against the Chargers.

But the Warriors eliminated any doubt, sweeping past the Chargers to secure the program's first CCCAA State Championship berth.

The CCCAA State Championships will be hosted by MiraCosta at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. The CCCAA Team State Championships will be held on Thursday, May 9 at 9 a.m. with four teams from Southern California and two teams from Northern California.
