Second Quarter Surge Pushes Bulldogs Past Bakersfield

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team used an explosive second quarter to close out a 73-51 victory over Bakersfield inside the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium on Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs led wire-to-wire in the contest, but a 15-3 run in the second frame allowed AHC to build a comfortable lead heading into the intermission. The Bulldogs held off a comeback attempt by Bakersfield in the second half of play, outscoring BC but just one basket after the intermission.

Alijah Paquet led all scorers on the night with 15 points while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists. Danielle Morgan posted her second double-double of the season after turning in a stat-stuffing performance that featured 14 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal. Aryana Gonzales and Jayci Bayne made it a quartet of double-digit scorers with 14 points and 13 points, respectively. Jewelia Maniss led the performers off the bench to the tune of 13 rebounds and eight points.

As a team, the Bulldogs shot 46.4 percent from the field while a stingy defense limited Bakersfield to just a 28.3 percent showing from the floor. The Bulldogs finished with a +18 rebounding margin and converted 15 points on 16 Renegades turnovers.

AHC is scheduled to return to action on Friday, March 12, with a return contest at Bakersfield. Tip-off is set for 4 PM in Bakersfield, Calif. Spectators will not be permitted at the event, but fans can watch the contest online by clicking here.
