Baseball Drops 9th Inning Lead En Route to Loss

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College Baseball Team wrapped up a three game series against Golden West on Saturday afternoon at Gerry Collis Field and came away with a loss in extra innings, 4-3 to allow the Rustlers the series sweep.

Sage Voda scored the games first run on an Ashanti Ross RBI groundout in the bottom of the third. Golden West got their first run on a fielding error by Hector Ruvalcaba which allowed Golden West to score the runner from third.   

BC was able to get two go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth to move ahead, 3-1. First, Try Harmon brought in Will Reynolds on an RBI single and then the next batter, Kamron Willman brought in Ruvalcaba on another RBI single.

The Rustlers would not go away easily, as they scored two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 3-3 and push it to extra innings. In the top of the tenth Golden West knocked in a run to go ahead 4-3. The Renegades were unable to answer in the bottom half and dropped the third game of the series.

Nathan Ortiz got the start at pitcher for BC and worked six innings with four strikeouts. Benji Caggianelli came in to relief for the seventh and then Chris Rodriguez pitched the rest of the game taking the loss in extra innings.

With the loss, BC drops to 7-7 overall.

Next up, the Renegades will travel to Allan Hancock this Tuesday (2/19) for a 12:30pm game.
