Baseball Blanks LA Valley, 9-0

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College baseball team opened up WSC play hosting LA Valley College on Saturday afternoon at Gerry Collis Field and collected a huge win, 9-0.

In the second inning, Zach Williams scored the game's first run from third base after the LA Valley outfielder mishandled the Kamron Willman fly ball to left field.

The Renegades came alive offensively in the bottom of the seventh, scoring five. First, Ashanti Ross laid down a bunt that allowed Williams to score from third. Rhett Garrett hit a double as the next batter to bring home Trey Harmon and Ross. That was followed by Sage Voda hitting a triple to bring home Garrett. Jacob Sanchez then had a hit into shallow right field to bring home Voda.

Williams scored his third run of the day after an Ashanti Ross double into left field. Garrett then brought home two runs off another double a few batters later to extend the lead to 9-0.

Alejandro Murillo got the start at pitcher for the Renegades and went all nine innings, collecting ten strikeouts and only allowing two hits.

With the victory, BC now improves to 8-9 overall and 1-0 in WSC play.

Up next, the Renegades head to West LA for a 2:00pm game on Tuesday 2/26.
