Baseball Falls to Fullerton after Tying Three Times in the Game

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College baseball team hosted Fullerton College on a Tuesday afternoon and came away with a hard loss despite tying the game three times.

Scoring runs was not an issue for either team as only two innings was runless.

The Hornets scored first and early at the beginning of the game, getting two runs off a ground ball and a sacrafice bunt with bases loaded. Renegades matched their runs grabbing a run from Jose Ruiz's triple for Andrew Townson to score and Alek Martinez single to bring Ruiz home at the bottom of the first inning. (2-2) Unfortunately, FC cut that tie and added two runs in the second and another in the fourth to lead 5-2.

At the bottom of the fourth, Freshman Joseph Alatorre singled to right center for Xabi Iparragui to score to cut the Hornets lead. BC found a way to add two runs to tie the game again in the bottom of the fifth. Martinez singled once more to send Townson home while Jarrett Brannen had a single down the right field line for Ruiz o score (5-5).

Fullerton managed to put another run across at the end of the sixth inning, but BC's Iparragui grounded out to shortstop for Ruiz to tie the game for the third time at the bottom of seven(6-6). The scoring was not over for FC and added two more in the eighth while Bakersfield also tallied a run by Townson's single to center field for Altorre to score (8-7).

Starting the game at pitcher for the Renegades was Brock Barron who went 3.2 innings before being replaced by John Alderete. Alderte was replaced in the sixth by Daniel Felix who was replaced by Casey Jasso for the final inning. Felix took the loss.

With the loss, BC drops to 5-11 overall.

The Renegades will next travel to face Fullerton again on Thursday 3/03 at 2:00pm.
