Renegades Drops 8th Inning Lead En Route to Loss

BAKERSFIELD, CA- The Bakersfield College baseball team hosted the LA Mission Eagles in the first game of a three game series and loss, 4-3.

Through the first four innings the game was a pitcher's duel until the first run would come from the Renegades with freshman Andrew Townson coming home from a single to center field from first basemen Alek Martinez to score at the bottom of the fourth.  Bakersfield held onto their lead for a full innning until the Eagles found themselves with a tying run at the top of six (1-1).

BC's catcher, Xabi Iparraguie, hit a one run home run to take their lead back (2-1). This is the catcher's fourth home run of the season.

Unfortunately, LA scored a double to take the lead late at the top of the eighth inning. The Renegades tied the game with a single from Jarrett Brannen to bring Jose Ruiz home (3-3) at the bottom of eight but Eagles found a way to add an unearned run from a throwing error in the ninth and BC could not add another at the bottom of the inning.

David Villegas got the start on the mound for Bakersfield and went seven innings with four strikeouts, John Alderete went in for an inning and a half.

BC collected ten hits on the night with one error while LA Mission did the same, ten hits and one error.

The Renegades will be back at home Saturday (3/12) for game three, but will travel to game two on Thursday (3/10).
