Derrick Vickers was named to the 2016 CCCAA All-American Football team at the "All-Purpose" position after a dominating campaign that saw him collect almost 800 more all-purpose yards than the runner-up.

Derrick Vickers added another post-season accolade this week when The California Community College Athletic Association released it's 2016 All-American Team roster Wednesday.

Vickers was named at the "All Purpose" player position, and statistics show he was incredibly dominant in that role. Vickers racked up 2,443 all-purpose yards to lead the state and it wasn't even close. He had nearly 800 yards more than the second place finisher, and the rest of the top ten were within 100 yards of the runner-up's mark.

"Vickers is an exciting player, no doubt. He is extremely competitive. Derrick's ability to score every time he touched the ball created opportunities for other guys on the offense to make things happen. I'm excited to see what Derrick will do at the next level."

Athletic Director Sandi Taylor wasn't just the department's chief this year, she has also turned into a regular fan by the unique possilbiities that opened up on the field at many junctures.

"We are excited to see what his future brings. Watching him play two seasons in Renegade Red was a treat, for sure. It felt like anything could happen when he got a hold of the ball," Athletic Director Sandi Taylor said.

Vickers' is focused on completing his studies at BC, but has fielded more than a little interest from multiple four year schools, and isn't quite ready to speak of his Renegade teammates in the past tense.

"I couldn't do anything on the field without my guys," Vickers said, "From the big boys up front on the line who opened holes for me, Lameshio (Hill), and Ferguson (Ayers) to run through...to my fellow receivers who made defenses work and sprung me downfield more than once. Jakell (Tomlin), Jazz Thind, and Carlton (Bowman) were a strong unit. For sure," Vickers said, "And the way Cesar (De Leon) and Dalton (Gallis) managed the offense between them was seamless. I'm grateful.

Vickers played on a BC squad that rebounded from a disappointing 2015 campaign by qualifying for the Western State Bowl against powerhouse Long Beach, and very nearly upset the favored Vikings thanks to a shrewd gameplan and, of course, another high-powered performance by Vickers.

"Coach Dean dialed up some great plays all season," Vickers said, "This was a different look for us, and it was fun to be a part of. From Coach Chudy to Mr. Miranda (BC Equipment Manager), our staff is first class. Nothing but supportive. Between BHS and BC alone, I've been lucky to play in great programs," Vickers said.

Vickers hauled in 10 receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns, and he also ran back a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown in the 47-41 loss to Long Beach.
