2017 RENEGADE FOOTBALL SCHEDULE RELEASED

Crowd in Memorial Stadium watching the game
The countdown to Renegade Football begins!

The 2017 Bakersfield College Football Schedule has been released, and the Renegades will host some bitter rivals in Memorial Stadium this season, including Allan Hancock, Riverside, and El Camino College.

Folks will get their first taste of this year's Renegade squad on Thursday, August 24th in Memorial Stadium when BC hosts Antelope Valley for a controlled, no-score, scrimmage.

But the real action kicks off September 2nd at 6p when the Allan Hancock Bulldogs come to town for the regular season opener, but according to the Head Coach, they've got work to do before then.

"We've started off our Summer program, and things are going great," Coach Jeff Chudy said, "There's a lot of energy and excitement, a lot of bodies, it's all good!"

The Renegades finished their 2016 campaign with a heartbreaking loss in the Western State Bowl at Long Beach City College. BC rallied and scored 14 fourth quarter points, but a successful onside kick on a novel trick play by the Renegades with just minutes to to go in regulation was whistled dead, only for the officials to announce no penalty by virtue of "inadvertent whistle". The element of surprise evaporated along with Bakersfield's momentum, and the Vikings held on to claim the bowl victory in front of a stunned home crowd.

But Coach Chudy and Co. have left that game in the past, and have their noses firmly to the grindstone as they attempt to cook up another postseason-worthy team.

They'll be doing it without one of California's most electrifying prep and Juco offensive weapons, Derrick Vickers. The BHS grad is headed for Utah, after an off-season of multi-school courtships culminated in Vickers deciding to become a Ute.

The quarterback position is open as well, with last year's Game 1 starter Dalton Gallis's eligibility exhausted, and Cesar De Leon not a lock under center as there are no guarantees on Panorama.
