The 2017 Bakersfield College Renegades Football team take the field at Memorial Stadium for the first time briefly after Saturday afternoon's first practice session in pads.

The 2017 Bakersfield College Renegades had their first practice in full pads in Saturday's second and final practice session of the weekend and while they showed plenty of promise and enthusiasm, Head Coach Jeff Chudy was even-keeled and pragmatic heading into the off day.

"Our approach is one day at a time," Chudy said following practice, "We need to focus in on what we can control."

With a bumper crop of local freshman dotting the potential Renegade roster, and fueling speculation about positional battles amongst local fans, the veteran Head Coach showed both the depth of his perspective and the reason for his long tenure with few words.

"At this juncture , it is about our mindset and attitude," he said regarding the team's goals, "Monday will be a new challenge and hopefully we will continue to make progress."

The Renegades are coming off a bowl berth and a near-upset of favored Long Beach City College to wrap up the 2016 season, but many of the players who were key to those victories have moved on as is the cycle at the two-year scholarship factory like BC.

But Coaches Chudy, Carl Dean (Offensive Coordinator) and Reggie Bolton (Defensive Coordinator) are focusing on instilling the long-successful Renegade values in their athletes, rather than speculating endlessly on short term questions like who will be starting where on September 2nd when the Renegades open their season at Memorial Stadium by hosting the Allan Hancock Bulldogs.

Instead, they'll leave the light work to fans and focus on preparing the entire 100+ member team for the greatest and longest running reality show ever;  the 10 game rollercoaster ride that always has more highs than lows...Renegade Football.
