Football Tops El Camino in Home Opener

Bakersfield, CA - The BC football team took on El Camino in Memorial Stadium on Saturday night in their home opener for the season. 

The first quarter of the game saw each team punting the football away on three occasions as neither team was able to move the ball offensively.

El Camino opened up the scoring for the game in the 2nd quarter on a 13 play 61 yd drive, but missed the extra point. The Renegades got on the board after a 12 yd scamper by Elisha Ortiz and Nathan De Jager converted the extra point to take the lead 7-6. On their next offensive possesion, Josh Medina found Ortiz, who took the ball into the endzone for the 2nd BC touchdown of the day. The ensuing extra point was blocked by El Camino and BC lead stayed at 13-6. 

BC's Jeremiah Johnson intercepted El Camino on the next drive and took it all the way back for a touchdown. De Jager converted the extra point and BC went into the half with a 20-6 lead.

The second half turned into a defensive battle that saw neither team score a touchdown. El Camino added a pair of field goals - one at the begining of the 3rd quarter and the other mid-way through the 4th quarter. The BC defense held however and allowed the Renegades to come away with their first victory and move to 1-1 on the season.

Coming up next BC will stay at home to face Santa Monica College at 6p in Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Septemeber 15th.
