Football Rides Defensive Points to Big Victory

Bakersfield, CA - Football squared off against Orange Coast on Saturday evening in Memorial Stadium and the Renegade defense converted multiple turnovers for points to spur on a 41-7 victory.

The scoring started for the Renegades after Jacob Harrington intercepted OCC's Pete Mitchell's pass and returned it 28 yards to the OCC 49 yard line. Four plays later, Renegade QB Jacob Irby connected with Cam Roberson on an 11 yard touchdown pass. Nathan De Jager converted the extra point to go up 7-0. An OCC fumble at the end of the 1st quarter set up the next scoring drive for BC. Four plays after the fumble recovery Irby found the end zone on an 8 yard scamper. A few possesions later, LJ Early intercepted the OCC offense for the second time and returned it 37 yards to the OCC 10 yard line. BC was held on downs and resulted in a De Jager 27 yard field goal attempt, which was good to put the Renegades up 17-0.

In the second half BC's opening drive went 56 yards over 7 plays before resulting in a 26 yard field goal by De Jager. Mid-way through the 3rd quarter OCC got close enough to attempt a short field goal, but after a botched snap on the hold, Jalen Simpkins scooped up the loose ball and ran 80 yards for the touchdown.

LJ Early got his second interception of the day in the 4th quarter when he picked OCC QB Nathan West on the OCC 44 yard line. Jacob Irby then found Adarian Rowel open over the middle who took the ball 50 yards to the end zone and with the extra point BC went up 34-0. OCC was able to avoid a shutout when Nathan West found CJ Wiliams for a 16 yard pass into the endzone. The Renegades final touchdown came when Justin Harrington made the fourth BC interception on the day and returned it 98 yards for a touchdown. With the resulting extra point the final score stood at 41-7.

Irby was 8-21 with 190 yards passing on the day and also had 9 rushes for 26 yards on the ground. Adarian Rowel had two catches for 88 yards and Shan Jones hauled in two for 47 yards. BC Punter Carson Olivas had a productive day punting the ball with a 44.8 yard averge on the day with OCC only gaining 10 yards in punt returns on the night.

Up next the Renegaedes have a bye week after which they will head on the road to play Ventura on Saturday, October 13th at 6:00pm.
