Football Falls to El Camino On Late Field Goal

Bakersfield, CA - The Renegade football team fell to 0-2 on the season on Saturday evening at Murdock Stadium on the campus of El Camino College after a last second field goal lifted the El Camino Warriors past the BC in week two of the 2019 football season.

The Renegades fell behind early in the contest after El Camino scored the first touchdown of the game just four minutes into the first quarter on a 6 play, 40 yard drive. The Renegades responded with their first offensive points of the season at the end of the first quarter when kicker Paxton Winders converted a 32 yard field goal to make the game 7-3. Winders would then go on to add a 43 yard field goal with 8:21 left in the second quarter. BC sophomore Justin Harrington then intercepted an El Camino pass for his second pick of the season and returned it 52 yards all the way down to the eight yard line, which set-up an Isaiah Martin touchdown run on the next play to give BC their first lead of the night, 13-7. Before the half, El Camino put together a 4 play, 50 yard drive to take the lead back going into the break, 14-13.

The lone scoring play of the third quarter for either team was a 54 yard punt-return for a touchdown by El Camino, but missed the point after to go ahead, 20-13. They followed that up in the fourth quarter with a 29 yard field goal to take a 23-13 lead.

Bakersfield's Braden Wingle who had trouble connecting with receivers throughout the evening would find Adarian Rowel with 9:22 left in the fourth for a 70-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 23-20. BC's defense would force an El Camino punt that the Renegades converted into a 36 yard field goal by Winders that tied the game at 23-23.

Both teams exchanged possessions of the ball until El Camino converted a 39 yard field goal to win the game with two seconds left on the clock and send BC home with their second loss in as many weeks.

Offensively the Renegades managed only 168 yards of total offense on the evening while the Warriors had 310. Wingle was 6 of 22 for 106 yards passing while Isaiah Martin led the team in rushing with 25 carries for 87 yards. Winders was perfect on the evening in the kicking game going 3/3 in field goal attempts and 2/2 in extra point attempts.

BC now falls to 0-2 on the season and will next travel to face Santa Monica this coming Saturday, September 21 at 6pm at the Santa Monica College football stadium. The game will be live-streamed through this link: https://www.ustream.tv/channel/bc-renegades-athletics
