BC Drops First Game of the Season

Walnut, CA – The Bakersfield College football team traveled down to Mt. San Antonio college, for Mt. SAC's first home game. Several big offensive plays by the Mounties would hand the Renegade's first loss of the season, 45-21, on a windy Saturday evening.

Mt. SAC got on the board first in the opening quarter with a 35-yard field goal. Not long after that, BC's freshman Jalen Blizzard's ensuing kickoff return of 100 yards and the subsequent extra point gave the Gades their only lead of the night, 7-3 at 7:46.

Unfortunately, the Mounties took the lead for good from here and went up 10-7 with a 45-yard touchdown with eight seconds remaining in the first quarter. The only scoring in the second quarter was on a Renegade turnover, an 11-yard touchdown pick-six interception giving Mt. SAC a 17-7 lead at halftime.

Twice, Bakersfield pulled to within three points of the lead in the third quarter. Once, on sophomore's Isaac Jernagin's 1-yard touchdown. Then on quarterback Dexter Frampton's 58-yard touchdown pass to Blizzard sandwiched between an Mt. SAC rushing touchdown at 5:52 of the third quarter.

Although BC had a slight edge in passing yards (214-210), the huge difference was on the ground as the Mounties piled up 255 yards to the Renegades 79. For the third straight game, Bakersfield's quarterbacks were sacked numerous times, with six being from this game and nineteen in the past three.

The Renegades will return to Memorial Stadium this coming Saturday, October 2nd for a 6 pm kickoff against San Bernardino Valley
