Santa Maria, CA – The up and down season for Bakersfield College concluded with a road loss to the Allan Hancock Bulldogs Saturday afternoon 13-0.
In a scoreless first half, it was Allan Hancock who missed opportunities that would have given them the lead while the Renegades offense sputtered. The only meaningful drive for BC was their first drive of the game, a 12-play drive that included a fourth-down conversion before punting with the ball on the Hancock 34-yard line.
On the ensuing possession, Hancock drove into field goal territory. On fourth down, the Bulldogs lined up for a field goal attempt but instead, pulled a fake that initially resulted in a 34-yard touchdown pass. The play was negated when AHC was flagged for an illegal substitution and the Bulldogs ended up punting the ball back to Bakersfield.
In the second quarter, Hancock converted on a fourth downplay that put the ball inside the BC's 5. A bad snap found AHC backed up to the Renegades 30. The Bulldogs went for the field but missed. After a BC fumble, Hancock again found themselves with another opportunity to put points on the board but again, the field goal attempt was missed. With under a minute remaining in the half, a third field goal attempt was blocked by Bakersfield at the line of scrimmage.
With AHC receiving the second-half kickoff, the Bulldogs drive stalled at the Renegades 23 and finally converted a field goal attempt from 40 yards to take a 3-0 lead. After a 3 and out for BC, Hancock drove to the Bakersfield 16 before kicking a 33-yard field goal upping the Bulldogs lead to 6-0 with 4:25 on the clock.
On their first play after receiving the kickoff, BC's wide receiver Jayden Smith's second fumble of the game was returned for a 41-yard touchdown, giving AHC a 13-0 lead.
Trailing by 13 points as the Renegades entered the fourth quarter, Dexter Frampton, who replaced Richard Lara during the final possession of the second quarter, got the Gades to a goal-to-goal situation before penalties moved them backward. On fourth down, Frampton's pass was intercepted. Unfortunately, Frampton was intercepted an additional two more times on consecutive possessions after.
With the loss, the Renegades concluded the 2021 season and 94th in school history with an overall record of 2-8 and 1-4 in Western State Conference play. Stay tuned for the 2022 scheduled release in late Spring.
