BC MEN'S BASKETBALL TO OPEN PLAYOFFS ON THE ROAD

While there is no place like home, BC will open the playoffs on the road after an incredible regular season that culminated with the Western State Conference South championship.
While there is no place like home, BC will open the playoffs on the road after an incredible regular season that culminated with the Western State Conference South championship.

The Bakersfield College Men's basketball team clinched the Western State Conference South title last week-their first solo title since 1998-but discovered Monday that they were seeded #9, while Antelope Valley College was seeded #7 despite finishing three games behind them in conference standings.

"It's a new seeding system, and obviously it has some flaws," Coach Rich Hughes said.

Hughes and Associate Head Coach Aaron Chavez were disappointed with the seeding meeting outcome that would have them face #1 seed Saddleback College if they defeat Moorpark on the road February 26th at 7pm in their first playoff game of the year.

"I looked through the criteria and saw there was that possible. I was somewhat prepared, we were hoping it wouldn't happen, but it did," Hughes said.

He isn't worried about the team being prepared, though.

"We're just going to do what we do and see how many games we can win. Most of the guys were thinking we'd be home (for the first game of the playoffs), and when they find out where we are seeded and where Antelope Valley was seeded, I'm sure they are going to be very motivated to show we are a team to beat."
