The Bakersfield College Men's Basketball Team (15-8, 2-0) remain undefeated in Western State Conference South play with a 105-100 win in double overtime against Santa Monica (9-11, 1-1) Saturday night.

A near-capacity crowd watched Jamar Hammonds score 32 points on an emotional night where the team honored the late Brian Carter and his surviving family with a jersey and other momentos. Carter was  a former BC assistant coach who went on to Head Coach South High before dying in a car accident last Fall.

"We just told our guys that the Carter family devoted so much to our program, even after he left, and that they should  play their hearts out, and that's what they did," Coach Rich Hughes said.

Hammonds led the way in more than scoring.

"He was our primary energy guy in the first half, he was all over the place and then in the second half we got some energy from the rest of the guys," Hughes said.

Sean Le Flore picked up three blocked shots and two steals, and made key defensive stops late in the fourth quarter and in the second overtime period.

BC plays at West LA on January 25th and sits in first place in the Western State South Tournament.
