Men's Basketball Opens Conference Play With a Victory

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College Men's basketball team hosted College of the Canyons at the Gil Bishop Sports Center to open up Western State Conference play and won, 85-80.

The first half saw a number lead exchanges with neither team taking a significant advantage. BC came from behind to take the lead into the half at 41-40.

In the second half, the Renegades came out and maintained the lead through 10 minutes of the period until COC came back to go back and forth the rest of the way. With 30 seconds left Jeffrey Lee sank a 3-point basket to put the Renegades up for good at 83-80. Shahadah Camp would then secure the victory with a steal and lay-up to win 85-80.

Leading BC in scoring for the game was Lee with 22 points. Camp provided 17 points and 6 rebounds and Anieus Medrano added 16 points.

With the win, the Renegades improve to 13-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Up next, they will head on the road to continue conference play at LA Pierce this Saturday (1/26) at 3pm.
