Renegades Lose in a Nail Bitter Finish

BAKERSFIELD, CA – A layup with 18 seconds left to play and a single free throw point gave the Bakersfield College men's basketball team a home lost against the Antelope Valley Marauders, in a conference match up on Wednesday night in the Gil Bishop Sports Center. The Renegades were unable to secure another point before the buzzer went off and fell 63-61.

AVC got on the board first with a quick three-pointer jump shot, while BC took their first shot from a free throw made by Sean Fry. The score remained close with BC taking their first lead of the night at 12:57 but each team would take turns taking the advantage from one another until Antelope Valley took a two point lead into the half.

The Marauders held onto the lead into the last half of the game until Bakersfield tied the contest at 42 points. Once again, the game would go back and forth until Bakersfield took their largest lead of the night with a six-point edge on AVC. However, Antelope Valley was not backing down yet and went on their own 7-0 run with 2:42 left on the clock. Sophomore Ipreye Egbe made a jump shot with 43 seconds to give his team a three point lead but AVC found the net with 22 seconds to close the gap by one point and then scored another to put AVC on top with no time left for Bakersfield to score.

Leading the team tonight was Sean Fry and Egbe with 14 points each. Teammate Rahmel Davis ended the night with 9 rebounds while chipping in 11 points. The team shot 73% from the free throw line and had 34-26 points in the paint.

The Renegades drop to 10-9, and 2-3 in conference on the season. BC will head out for a road match up against Santa Monica on Saturday before returning home for two home games with LA Valley (Wednesday, Jan. 25th) and Citrus (Saturday, Jan. 28th).
