BC Wins in Double Overtime

BAKERSFIELD, CA – A double overtime game is what it took for the Bakersfield College men's basketball team to win over the visiting LA Valley Monarchs on Wednesday evening, 75-71.

The Renegades grabbed an early lead and held on to the advantage at the end of the first half, 36-17.

BC went into the second half holding on their lead until the Monarchs started to scratch back with under 10 minutes remaining in regulation. With just five minutes left in the contest, LA Valley took their first lead of the game, since halfway through the first half, 50-51. BC was unable to recover their large lead back and LA Valley forced an overtime game at 57 points.

A double overtime would be forced once more by the Monarchs with a three point buzzer shot at 68 points.

Eloy Medina gave BC the assurance three-point shot to put them ahead. Fortunately, LA Valley struggled offensively and only managed to score three more points in the last five minutes while the Renegades added two more points from the foul line.

Leading the team tonight was sophomore Medina with a season high of 24 points going 8-16 from the three-point line while freshman Terrin Dickey ended the night with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Bakersfield scored 19-14 off turnovers and 36-28 in the paint.

With the win, the Renegades improve to 11-10 on the season and 3-4 in conference. Bakersfield will start the second half of the conference at home this Saturday, January 28th, and host Citrus College for a 5:00pm tip off.
