Men's Soccer Falls to the Cougars at Home

BAKERSFIELD, CA – Two goals, one penalty kick and one free kick, would be the only points earned to shutout the Bakersfield College soccer team on Tuesday evening. The Renegades pushed to try and equalize against College of the Canyons but in the end it wouldn't be enough and the Cougars would load the bus with their first conference win, 2-0.

A lot of action in the first 45 minutes, which included four yellow cards, three from the visitors and one for the boys in red, along with a goal. The goal came early in the 10th minute by the Cougars from a penalty kick by a foul from the Renegades. Defensively, BC held Canyons to only one goal in the first half while trying to obtain the equalizer by having three shots on goal as a team.

In the second half things would match up the same except Canyons playing down a player after being given an ejection after a red card. A free kick would be awarded to COC at the 53rd minute, which they converted, to secure their lead, 2-0. Unfortunately, BC would be given a chance 20 minutes later to come short only one goal from a foul by the Canyons, but the ball would be kicked too high left. The `Gades managed to acquire two shots on goal but never found the back of the net.

With the loss, the Renegades hold on to a 7-6-2 record on the season and 1-1-1 in conference. Bakersfield will head out for the road for two games. Tomorrow (Oct. 30), a rescheduled game at Citrus College and November 5th they will travel to Antelope Valley College.
