Men's Soccer Drops Home Opener

Bakersfield, CA – On a very hot evening, the Renegade Men's Soccer team opened the 2022 season hosting College of the Sequoias at home on Friday, August 26th at the BC Soccer Field and fell to the Giants, 3-1.

The men in red might have been more anxious to be back on the field to start off their season which caused them to make some early mistakes in the first half. COS took a 2-0 lead in 16 minutes after a water break and a player going down.

Into the second half and COS would score one more goal before BC was able to start itching at their lead. At the 65th minute a penalty kick was granted to Bakersfield due to the Giants goalkeeper stepping out of the box and tripping a Renegades. Center midfielder, Victor Melendez was up for the task to save the Gades from going scoreless in the game. Goalkeeper Derek Martinez salvaged the game with three more saves in the half ending the game with a total of 6 saves.

With the lost, they move to 0-1 to start the season. Up next, the team will travel next week to play at Fullerton College (08/30) and Norco College this Friday (9/02). Their next home game will be on Tuesday, September 6 for a 4:00pm kickoff.
