The Bakersfield College Softball team (11-10, 7-3) racked up 12 hits in a 6-1 win over Santa Barbara (10-9, 5-5) in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday.

Alyssa Gonzales was three for four at the plate, knocking in three runs while scoring two herself. Two of the RBI came on a fourth inning homer that gave starting pitcher McKenna Valencia (7-7) all the cushion she needed to pick up the win.

Valencia gave up only three hits and one earned run while striking out nine batters. While she struggled with control at times, walking several Vaqueros and plunking two, her ability to make batters miss ruled the day. Valencia is currently second in the state in both strikeouts (76) and strikeouts per seven innings (8.06).

BC will start Alexis Solis (3-3) in game two of the doubleheader at the Dean & Adah Gay Sports Complex.
