Softball Crushes Taft on Back End of Doubleheader

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College softball team hosted Taft College in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at the Dean & Adah Gay Sports Complex and came away with mercy ruled 5th inning win, 11-2.

Atlantis Rede hit her third homerun of the day to open up the scoring in the first inning. This one being a two-run shot over the left-center fence.

The Renegades drove in three runs in the third and in the fourth Aviana Campos had an RBI double to increase the lead to 6-0.

Taft managed to score a run in the bottom of the fourth, but in the fifth, BC exploded offensively. Rede started it off with a three run RBI triple and the next batter, Natalie Parrish, hit a two-run homerun to increase the lead to 11-1. Taft managed a another run in the bottom of the fifth, but were not able to mount any further of a comeback.

Parrish got the start at pitcher for Renegades. She worked all five innings, collecting three strikeouts and allowing four hits.

With today's victories, BC improves to 3-4 overall.

Up next, the Renegades travel to Santa Barbara City College this Thursday, Feb. 21 for a 2:30pm game against the Vaqueros.
