Bakersfield, CA – The Renegade Softball team hosted Porterville College in the first game of a double header at the Dean & Adah Gay Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon and came away with a mercy-ruled victory in game one, 20-5.
The Renegades started scoring early and often in the first inning, going up 5-0 after one. In the third inning BC exploded for 14 runs thanks to trio of consecutive home runs by Alantis Rede (grand-slam), Natilee Parrish and Trinity Ybarra. The boost was more than enough to ride to the run-ruled victory.
Rede collected six RBI's on the day, Parrish went 3 for 5 at the plate with four RBI's and Kristen Burgies was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's. In total the Renegades had 11 hits.
Ybarra was credited with the win in the circle for BC. She surrendered five runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking one.
BAKERSFIELD, CA – Coming off a victorious fifth inning mercy rule first game the Bakersfield College softball team wasted no time to take the second game in the same fashion. The Renegades swept the Pirates 11-1 in five innings.
BC got out to an early lead and never looked back. Outfielder Monica Alvarez started out the runs with the help of a passed ball while sophomore Natilee Parrish advanced on the same pitch and put the Renegades ahead 2-0 with a fly ball double from teammate Alex Venegas.
Six more runs would be scored by the ladies in red before Porterville woke up in the 4th inning to earn a single run.
Renegades showed no mercy for the Pirates and continued to score three more runs in the fourth to secure a short five inning game to complete their doubleheader of the day.
Sydney Barnes got the win at pitcher for BC. She went five innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out three.
With the wins, Renegades move to 5-3 on the season and will play another doubleheader this Saturday, February 8th against Riverside. The first game will begin at 2:30pm followed by the next at 5:00pm.
