BC Women's Basketball picked up the Consolation Championship in Monterrey...but it was the 300th time Coach Dahl has enjoyed sweet victory as head coach of BC Basketball.

The Bakersfield College Women's Basketball team (8-6) clinched the Monterrey Peninsula Classic Consolation Championship with a 69-59 victory over Monterrey Peninsula (2-9) that also made Coach Paula Dahl a member of the exclusive 300 win club.

"We finally started getting defensive stops again," Dahl said about the victory, "We struggled a little bit…or a lot…with that on the first day, and today was the first day we played defense the way we actuallyi play defense; we forced several shot clock violations and they didn't have an easy time getting shots off, period."

Mackenzie te Velde and "Peanut" Figueroa led BC in scoring with 15 points a piece, but Dahl was clear that it was a team win, a sentiment echoed by her boss in regard to Dahl's milestone acheivement.

"Coach Dahl did more than hit win number 300 for herself today. She once again confirmed the core values of the Renegade Way," Athletic Director Sandi Taylor said, "Namely, that no one can limit how hard we work, and that most anything can be accomplished via teamwork."

Dahl is in her 23rd season at BC, and she says she has never stopped learning.

"One of the biggest things is basketball is always a grind. The season is long, it covers two semesters, the major holidays, and so there are big demands placed on players and coaches," Dahl explained, "So coaching at this level is finding consistency through all of it. Coach Carl Feirrera told me that we have to reach out for help if we are going to last, and I did that and found a mentor who, among other things, reminded me is to get out of the kids' way when it comes to learning."

The BC position is Dahl's first and only head coaching gig.

"I'm so grateful that Sandy Bowers and Carl Bowser were willing to take a chance on a 28 year old rookie coach. I'm grateful for all the folks like Steve Holmes and Emre Ozoral who helped me in the beginning. Susan Pinza, former coach Jenny Dahl (no relation)...just wonderful people who invested in me," Dahl said.

Her 300 wins give her the highest all-time total in the history of basketball at BC.
