Women's Basketball Drops Opener to Riverside After Slow Second Half

Bakersfield, CA – The Renegade Women's Basketball team dropped their season opener on Friday night to the visiting Riverside City College Tigers, 66-54. The Renegades, up 14 points at the half, managed just 13 second half points as the Tigers overtook the lead in the third quarter and never looked back taking the victory from the home team.

The first quarter went back and forth and saw the Renegades come from behind to begin a dominant run in the first half to go into the break with a 41-17 lead. Bakersfield extended the lead to 16 with 9:47 to go in the third, but Riverside would not back down and came charging back. The Tigers would completely swing the momentum in the third quarter and maintain the advantage, leading by as much as 15 in the last minute of the game.

Leading the Renegades was returning sophomore Dasia Wandick with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Janaye Herron added 12 points and 7 rebounds.

With the loss, the Renegades drop to 0-1 on the season. Tomorrow they will return to the court for their second game of the crossover when they host Pasadena City College on Saturday (11/2) at 5pm.
