Renegades Win Season Opener

Renegades Win Season Opener

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College women's basketball team won their season opener on Thursday night to the visiting Pasadena City Lancers, 60-52 for the first night of the Bakersfield Crossover tournament.

After an abbreviated 2020-21 season that didn't get completed due to covid protocol the Renegades were glad to get back on their hardware for the start of a somewhat normal season. The game started out as a back-and-forth battle with Pasadena maintaining a slight lead throughout the first half. At halftime the Gades found themselves down by three, 26-33.

Pasadena extended their lead by 10 in the third while Bakersfield tried closing the gap. Eventually BC found a way with two minutes left to take a short lead, but PCC ended the quarter leading by just by one point, 44-43.

Trailing by only one point at the start of the fourth gave Bakersfield the momentum they needed to start moving the ball down the court and holding the Lancers defensively. The Gades took their lead back once more in the final nine minutes of the game and never looked back.

Sophomore Julie Hernandez led in scoring with 17 points and 7 rebounds while teammate Elisa Enriquez tallied 11 points on the night.

The Renegades will wrap up the Crossover tournament tomorrow, Friday November 5th at home against Riverside City College. Tip off will be at 6:00pm with the first game at 4:00pm.
