Renegades Give Coach Dahl Her First 10-0 Record

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College women's basketball team opened its night with a 9-0 record on the season seeking a first 10-0 record since coach Paula Dahl has been coaching the Renegades. After a tough battle with the visiting West Hill Lemoore Eagles, the Gades and Dahl remain undefeated with a first 10-0 record, 79-73.

The first quarter started off slow offensively with BC down by a point (10-11) at the end of the period but fortunately for Bakersfield it would be the only time they trail in the game. The Eagles changed the lead 5 times just in the first quarter and tied once early in the second at 14 points. The Renegades went on a 7-0 run to take their largest lead and held on to their advantage at the end of both quarters, 34-26.

Into the second half the Renegades continued to edge the Eagles. WHL went on an 8-2 run (42-36) with about 6 minutes left in the third to try and close in on Bakersfield's lead, but BC kept their defense strong and went up 10 more points while West Hills only scored one more shot for the rest of the period.

Down by 18 points the Eagles knew they had to play more aggressive in the paint and forced several fouls. With three minutes left in the game WHL came away with an 8-2 run and kept trying to chip away at Bakersfield's margin but only got as close as six points behind. BC would end the game tired but excited as they reached a historic win for their head coach.

The Gades were led by freshman Kathleen Rodriguez who ended the night with a double-double at 27 points and 11 rebounds. Teammates Briana Green and Julie Hernandez chipped in 16 points while Hernandez added 11 rebounds. As a team BC was 50% in field goals and 63% in free throws.

Next up, the Renegades will play another home game against Santa Ana next Tuesday, (Dec. 14) at 5pm.
