Crystal Raya Signs with Fresno State

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College women's cross-country and track and field program would like to announce the commitment of sophomore Crystal Raya to Fresno State University in Fresno, California.

Raya will continue her collegiate athletic career on both the cross-country team and the track and field for the Bulldogs. She will join teammate Rain Gomez at Fresno which is a Division I school that competes in the Mountain West Conference.

The sophomore was first-team all-conference 6 times and 3 times All-American. She was 5th in the state as a freshman in the steeplechase and 4 x 400. Crystal set the school record in 2022 breaking a twenty-year-old record with a time of 11:58.34. Currently, she's top steeplechase in the state with a time of 11:38 and ranked 4th in the state in the 1500, 5th in the 3000, and in the top 12 in the 5k and 800. "Crystal is a runner that has developed and given up the 5K her freshman year to run on a relay, 4 x 400. She is one of the most highly recruited female distance runners in the last 10 years and in women's cross country she helped lead the XC team to a 3rd place regional finish, the highest in over 20 years, and a 6th place state finish. Should contend for the state title (Two of the All-Conference were from XC 2022. Led the team in 2021 and was either 1 or 2 runner in 2022, very close between her and Rain in 2023)" says head coach Pam Kelley.

Bakersfield College Athletics is excited to watch Crystal continue to be an excellent athlete for Fresno State.
