AVENGED! RENEGADES BEAT MOORPARK AT HOME!

BC Volleyball pulled off an upset of Moorpark just one week after losing to the Raiders 3-0.

The Bakersfield College Volleyball Team (8-8-1) avenged last week's brutal 3-0 loss to Moorpark at the LA Pierce Tournament with a gripping and intense 3-2 win over the Raiders (8-5) in front of a loud home crowd at the Gil Bishop Sports Center Friday night.

"That was a big win for us. We had been 0-8 against ranked teams," Coach Carl Feirrera said, "We knocked on the door, but against ranked teams we averaged only 19 points per set while giving up an average of 23 points per set. So we knew we just had to make some marginal gains in scoring two more points, remove two errors, and we stuck with that during training all week."
BC lost the opening set before tearing into Moorpark and winning sets two and three by solid margins. The Raiders rallied back in the fourth set, but after BC won the coin toss and elected to receive, it was all Renegades until the crowd erupted after the 15th and decisive point was scored.
"They had their way with us the last time we played them," Feirrera said, "What we are trying to do is understand how important defense is in this game. These kids have learned how to be successful at the collegiate level, and obviously we had performers who did well tonight. But our entire team has been learning to compete at a high level."
Hannah Pope played gritty defense for the Renegades and turned in 27 digs on the night.
"McKenzie Hernandez set the ball well according to the game plan, and especially in transition. Kelsey Henderson and Jordan Murrow had great nights on the left and right side, and these kids have learned how to be successful at the collegiate level. And obviously we had performers who did well tonight. But our entire team has been learning to compete at a high level," Feirrera said.
