Women's Volleyball Beats Canyons and Takes Outright WSC Conference Title

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College women's volleyball team hosted College of the Canyons Friday night in the Gil Bishop Sports Center and came away with a 3-1 win to end the regular season with a record of 23-1 and extend their winning streak to 17 games. With the win the Renegades also capture the outright 2018 Western State Conference (WSC) volleyball championship. 

Prior to the match starting the team's sophomores were honored as this was their last regular season home game of their Renegade career. The sophomores included: Sarah Armendariz, Shyanne Baez, Jasmine Medovitch, Julianna Strode and Bianca Logsdon.

In the first set both teams battled back and forth, with the Renegades playing catch-up throughout and coming up short to lose 25-23. BC came out much stronger in the second set and maintained the lead throughout to win 25-20. BC took the third set 25-16 and then followed it up with a strong fourth set, 25-19 to take the win.

Leading the way for BC was Lanie Camarillo with 18 kills and Penelope Zepeda with 14. Jessica Merante added 24 digs and and Sarah Armendariz had 34 set assists.

The Renegades will now wait to hear this weekend what their playoff match-up will be in the first round of the CCCAA women's volleyball playoff.
