Volleyball Is On to the Second Round With Sweep of Mt. San Jacinto

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College women's volleyball team hosted Mt. San Jacinto College Tuesday night in the Gil Bishop Sports Center in the first round of the CCCAA Women's Volleyball State Playoffs and came away with a 3-0 sweep to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

The first set was a back and forth battle to start out before the Renegade offense kicked into gear and they moved to a 25-18 victory. In the second set the Renegades moved out to a quick lead and never relented, winning it 25-19. The third set saw BC move out to a quick lead that Mt. San Jacinto chipped away at, but ultimately the Renegades prevailed 25-20 to take the match sweep.

"We're all really, really excited," commented Penelope Zepeda, "It's a big season for us, but we're just taking this game by game and another day to practice tomorrow. We're prepared to play any team. We'll play our game, play to our standard and just be ready to compete on Saturday."

Leading the way for BC was Lanie Camarillo with 12 kills and Penelope Zepeda with 10. Jessica Merante added 19 digs.

With the sweep, the Renegades bring their total to 19 sweeps on the season and extend their win streak to 18 matches. The Renegades will now move on to play San Diego Mesa at home on Saturday, Nov. 24th at 6pm in the second round of the CCCAA Women's Volleyball playoffs.
