Volleyball Tops Canyons, 3-1

Bakersfield, CA – The Renegade Volleyball team hosted College of the Canyons in their first Western State Conference match of the year and came away with a hard fought 3-1 victory. 

In the first set BC took an early lead before the Cougars came back to tie. From that point it was a back and forth battle between the two squads with the Renegades pulling away for the 25-20 win.

The back and forth battle resumed to start the second, with the Cougars pulling ahead by as much as six points, 17-11 at one point. BC mounted a come-back but were unable to overcome the Canyons lead and fell 25-22.

BC took early control of the third set and rode the lead throughout to take the set and the 2-1 lead, 25-17.

Both teams came out swinging in the fourth, but again the Renegades maintained the advantage and won the set 25-20 and took the match, 3-1.

Leading the team in kills on the night was Penelope Zepeda with 20 and Alyson Dess added 13. Jessica Merante led the team in digs with 22. As a team they totaled 7 aces.

With the win, the Renegades move to 9-2 on the season. Up next, they host Glendale at home this Friday (9/27) at 6pm in the Gil Bishop Sports Center.
