Renegades Sweep the Cougars for their 34th Home Win

Bakersfield, CA – The Renegade Volleyball team hosted College of the Canyons in their first Western State Conference match of the year and came away with a hard fought 3-0 victory. With this sweep against the Cougars, the Renegades punched their 34th home win and their 26th league win.

COC went on the board first while BC would match point for point shortly after until the Cougars went a 4-0 run to take the lead. The Renegades went on a run themselves (5-1) to tie the game at 8. Bakersfield only led the first set by two points as it was a back and forth battle between the two squads with the Renegades pulling away for the win, 25-20.

Into the second, Canyon would get on the board first once more. Not timid by this, the Renegades took early control quickly after in the second set and rode the lead throughout to take the second, 25-12.

Going into the third set the Cougars pulled ahead by as much as five points, 16-11, at one point. On the verge of losing their first set of the night with Canyon only two points away from taking the third, BC mounted a come-back and overcame COC lead by tying it up at 22 and 23 points. A serve and a block would seal the deal for the Renegades to take the sweep over the Cougars.

Leading the team in kills on the night was middle blocker Aly Dees with 9 and Kami Marion added 8. Marion also led the team in digs with 14. As a team they totaled 12 aces.

With the win, the Renegades move to 6-1 on the season. Up next, they will head out on the road to West LA on Friday, October 1st and Citrus Wednesday, October 6th.
