BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College volleyball team hosted the Moorpark Raiders in their first evening showdown at the Gil Bishop Sports Complex. The teams went to five games but in the end match went to the visiting Raiders, 3-2.
In the first set the Gades got on the board first, however Moorpark inch their way to take the lead shortly after and led by six points at 17-11. Bakersfield managed to close the gap at 21-24 but the first set went to the Raiders, 25-21.
Into the second set and the both teams would go point for point until the 5th tally for BC to take their first lead of the night. MC came back and took a short lead at 14-13 but the Gades pulled away with the second set, 25-23.
Once again it was a back and fourth battle for the third set. Moorpark gained the lead after six points and kept a three point cushion until Bakersfield crawled their way back in and tied at 18 points. The Raiders did not like Bakersfield coming back and the game started getting heated on both ends. The visiting coach recieved a yellow card before both teams tied at 24 and BC took the third set to, 26-24.
The game was on, both teams could feel the pressure to win the next set. About ten times the fourth set was tied and finish 28-26, Moorpark.
The fifth and final set started with the Raiders going up 5-1. BC was able to inch their way back 4-5 and then tie at 5 points. A red card was given to the visiting assistant coach and a point was granted to the Renegades but Moorpark was leading by two points. BC mananged to come back and tie the game at 12 points but only added one more point before the Raiders too the set and the match, 15-13
Sophomore Kami Marion ended the match with 15 kills and 18 digs while Alexandra Johnson would end the night at an outstanding 22 digs.
The Renegades will head out for the road in their next match playing at Ventura City College on September 21st and return home to play Santa Barbara on Friday, September 23rd.
