Penelope Zepeda currently serves as the Interim Program Director for Bakersfield College Women’s Volleyball
Zepeda, a former assistant coach, helped take over the program after Carl Ferreira retired after 20 seasons as a Renegade. Penelope not only carries the wealth and knowledge of Ferreira but also brings her own wealth of experience as both a decorated former athlete and an emerging leader in collegiate coaching. Now in her fourth year at BC, Zepeda leads the Renegades with a deep understanding of the game, a commitment to player development, and a passion for giving back to the program where her own journey began.
A proud product of Bakersfield's Frontier High School, Zepeda went on to star at Bakersfield College, where she earned multiple honors, including WSC MVP, First Team All-State, First Team All-Region, and AVCA All-American. Her standout performance earned her a scholarship to Western Oregon University before transferring to Stanislaus State University, where she completed her playing career and earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree, further deepening her commitment to leadership and education.
Zepeda returned to Bakersfield College as an assistant coach, playing a vital role in training, recruiting, and fostering a culture of accountability and excellence. She also brings valuable experience from the club coaching level, where she helped develop younger athletes both technically and mentally.
As Interim Program Director, Zepeda is focused on building a competitive and cohesive team environment that prioritizes growth on and off the court. Her leadership is guided by a player-first philosophy, emphasizing team culture, growth and development, and competing.
