WALNUT, CA - The Bakersfield College beach volleyball team opened its 2026 season in dominant fashion, sweeping their first match of its season-opening against El Camino and lost the second match 4-1 over Mount San Antonio College on Friday.
Bakersfield earned a 5–0 victory over El Camino College in Match 1, setting the tone early and showcasing depth across all five pairs in the Renegades' first competition of the year.
In all five game, the Renegades controlled play from start to finish in match 1. The No. 1 pair of Maya Barron and Chloe Lopez set the standard with straight-set wins (21–8, 21–19), while the No. 2 duo of Keira Wolf and Amanda Zepeda followed with convincing victories of their own (21–8, 21–16).
At the No. 3 spot, Mariah Sierra and Anahi King delivered tight straight-set wins (21–14, 23–21), and Amber Dela Cruz and Lainey Sterling added strong performances at No. 4, closing out their matches in two sets (21–10, 23–21). The sweep was sealed at No. 5 as Hawkins and Naranjo secured back-to-back wins (21–16, 21–12).
In match 2, the No. 1 pair Lopez and Barron defeated Mt. SAC, 21-18 and 21-11. Unfortunately, the Renegades would fall in the other four games against the Mounties.
The Renegades will head back out on the road to take on Fresno and Hartnell College at Santa Barbara.
