SANTA MONICA, CA. - The Bakersfield College beach volleyball team hit the road to compete in a pair of matches against Santa Monica College and Ventura College, facing tough competition throughout the day.
In the first match, Santa Monica defeated Bakersfield 5–0. The Corsairs earned straight-set wins at the top three courts, while the final two courts pushed the match to three sets. At No. 4, the duo of Mariah Sierra and Ruby Hawkins battled back after dropping the first set before Santa Monica closed out the final two sets. At No. 5, Anabel Naranjo and Lainey Sterling opened strong with a first-set win before Santa Monica rallied to take the final two sets and complete the sweep.
Bakersfield returned to the sand later in the day against Ventura College, where the Pirates earned a 4–1 victory. The Renegades picked up their lone win at the No. 5 position as Anabel Naranjo and Lainey Sterling secured a straight-set victory, 21–15, 21–19, over Ventura's Callie Cahill and Chelsea Torres.
Several BC pairs battled through competitive sets, including the No. 1 pair of Maya Barron and Chloe Lopez, who pushed their match to three sets against Ventura before falling 15–7 in the deciding frame. Amber De La Cruz and Anahi King also fought through a tight opening set at the No. 2 court before Ventura pulled away in the second.
The Renegades will host again this Friday with matches starting at 9:00AM due to unseasonalby warm weather.
