MODESTO, CA. — The Bakersfield College baseball team suffered its first setback of the season on Friday afternoon, falling 5–1 to Modesto at John Thurman Field. The Renegades move to 4–1 overall following the nonconference road loss.
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings before Bakersfield struck first in the top of the fourth. Landon McDonald provided the lone run of the day for the Renegades, launching a solo home run to right field to give Bakersfield a 1–0 lead.
Modesto responded in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game before breaking it open with a four-run fifth. The Pirates capitalized on timely hitting and defensive miscues, scoring five runs over the two frames to take control of the contest.
McDonald finished the day 2-for-4 with a home run and RBI, accounting for two of Bakersfield's three hits. Luke Shaw added the remaining hit, while Jordan Brito drew the lone walk for the Renegades.
On the mound, Jadyn Hernandez took the loss after working 4.2 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) while striking out five. Salvatore Russo provided solid relief, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings and allowing just two hits while striking out two.
BC will hope to get back to the win column when they host Cerritos College for a 3-game series at home starting Thursday, February 5th at 6:00PM.
