SANTA CLARITA, CA - The Bakersfield College men's soccer remained unbeaten in conference play with a 2–1 road victory over College of the Canyons on Friday.
After a scoreless first half, the Renegades came out strong after the break. Just moments into the second half, freshman Billie Vanegas scored his first collegiate goal and opened the scoring in the 47th minute, finishing a setup from freshman Andrew Nava to give Bakersfield a 1–0 lead.
Later in the half, sophomore Luis Gil doubled the advantage in the 78th minute with an unassisted goal, giving the Renegades a 2–0 cushion. Canyons responded quickly with a goal in the 80th minute, but Bakersfield's defense held firm to secure the win.
Goalkeeper Aaden Zamora had another solid outing, recording five saves on eight shots to earn his seventh win of the season. Bakersfield totaled seven shots, with five on goal, while Canyons tallied 12 shots and eight on target.
With the victory, Bakersfield improves to 8-3-3 overall. The Renegades are hoping to keep the momentum going into next week as they play their conference foes, Santa Monica, on the road Tuesday, October 21st.
