BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College men's soccer team showed out with an impressive 5–3 win over Santa Monica on Friday. The Renegades' much needed win against the #1 team in the conference, offense came alive behind an incredible performance from Anthony Gambe, who recorded a hat trick to lead Bakersfield's scoring surge.
Andrew Nava opened the match in the 12th minute, finishing a setup from Luis Gil and Javier Villatoro to give BC an early 1–0 lead. Santa Monica responded in the 26th minute to even the score, but the Renegades took control before halftime when Gambe found the back of the net off an assist from Andrew Orozco.
Bakersfield extended its advantage early in the second half, with Gambe striking again in the 51st minute, his second of the night, assisted by Gil. Moments later, Alejandro Alvarez added to the lead with a goal in the 65th minute, set up by Nava.
Santa Monica rallied with two late goals in the 78th and 80th minutes to close the gap, but Gambe sealed the victory in stoppage time, completing his hat trick off another assist from Orozco to secure the 5–3 win.
Goalkeeper Aaden Zamora anchored the Renegades' defense, finishing with five saves in the match.
With the victory, Bakersfield continues to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season with a conference record of 6-1-1 and overall record of 15-1-5. BC will celebrate its Sophomores on their final home game of the season on Friday, November 14th at 3:00PM.
