Renegades Compete at WSC #3

ALLEN HANCOCK, CA - The Bakersfield College men's swim team competed at the Western State Conference #3 at Allen Hancock College on Friday.

Leading the way once again was David Hernandez, who delivered an impressive runner-up finish in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:59.51. Hernandez also showcased his versatility with a third-place finish in the 400 IM (4:40.09) and a solid swim in the 100 backstroke (55.65), continuing to be a key contributor across multiple events.

Jacob Zimmerman also made a major impact, earning second place in the 400 IM with a time of 4:29.16 while adding a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM (2:10.63), demonstrating consistency in the individual medley events.

Distance events proved to be a strength for the Renegades, as Nicolas Lira placed sixth in the 1650 free (19:14.93) and contributed sprint points in both the 50 free and 100 free. Manuel Castro added a top-10 finish in the 1650 free (10th, 21:05.85), further solidifying Bakersfield's presence in long-distance races.

 The team also saw several notable improvements and personal efforts throughout the meet. Mateo Alvarez posted a time drop in the 100 free, while Kevin Valenzuela delivered one of the biggest improvements of the day in the 200 fly, dropping over eight seconds to place sixth. Additional contributions came from Bensin Alvarez, Samuel Handy, and Roujeh Alzaher, who each recorded solid finishes and time improvements in sprint events.

Swimming will host their one and only meet this Saturday at Garces. Race time starts at 10:00AM.
