Hernandez and Zimmerman Leave their Marks at the State Level

ORANGE COAST, CA - The 2026 season came to a close this past weekend for Bakersfield College men's swimming as sophomore David Hernandez and freshman Jacob Zimmerman represented the Renegades at the 3C2A State Championships. Competing against the top swimmers in California, the duo helped Bakersfield finish 16th overall in the state while delivering an impressive performance highlighted by four new school records and lifetime-best swims across all of their individual events.

David Hernandez capped off his sophomore season with three strong finishes, placing 12th in the 200 IM, 6th in the 100 Backstroke, and 7th in the 200 Backstroke. Hernandez set new Bakersfield College school records in both backstroke events, closing out his Renegade career among the program's all-time best.

Freshman Jacob Zimmerman also made a huge impact on the state stage, earning a runner-up finish in the 50 Free to lead the Renegades. Zimmerman added a 7th-place finish in the 100 Fly and placed 15th in the 100 Free. He set a new school record in the 100 Fly and also broke the school record in the 50 Fly during the lead-off split of the event.

The championship meet marked a strong finish to the season for the Renegades, with both swimmers leaving their mark in the Bakersfield College record books while competing among the best in the state.
