Bakersfield College and Kern Community Tennis Association are proudly partnering to stage the first annual Pfister Cup Tournament. This tournament will feature top junior college men's tennis teams from NorCal and SoCal playing the weekend of March 19 – 20. Participating teams include American River, Chabot, Foothill, Glendale, Ventura, and BC. Matches will be played at Bakersfield's four private clubs – Bakersfield Country Club, Bakersfield Racquet Club, Seven Oaks Country Club, and Stockdale Country Club. Match schedules can be found at www.kerntennis.org.
Hank Pfister, for whom the tournament is named, is a lifelong Bakersfield resident and tennis icon. Hank played for BHS and for his father Hank Pfister Sr. who coached at BC before becoming an All American at San Jose State. Hank competed on the professional tour for 13 years. Among his many accomplishments, he counted two French Open doubles titles, reaching the singles semifinals three time at the Australian Open, and achieving a world ranking of #19. After his playing career, Hank continued to serve the tennis community as Stockdale Country Club's Director of Tennis for 28 years and by coaching at all levels from juniors to professionals.
KCTA has promoted physical fitness for all ages through tennis for nearly 60 years. Their emphasis the past four years has been on enabling student athletes to enjoy the physical, social, and academic benefits associated with being part of their high school's athletic program. KCTA has accomplished this by donating more than 1100 racquets, 800 pairs of shoes, and 23,000 practice balls to student athletes at 26 high schools who could not afford their own equipment.
We encourage you to come out to see some great tennis and BC's team of local high school graduates compete against some of the best players in the state.
