Three Renegades Earn ITA All-American Honors

BAKERSFIELD, CA. - The Bakersfield College men's tennis program added another impressive achievement to its historic 2025-26 season as three Renegades earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American honors.

Freshman Mateusz Lipczynski was recognized as an ITA Singles All-American, while the doubles team of sophomore Axl Lajon Gonzaga and freshman Shang En Kao earned ITA Doubles All-American honors.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) annually recognizes the top junior college men's tennis student-athletes from both the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Singles players earn All-American status by finishing in the top 10 of the final ITA National Singles Rankings, while doubles teams are awarded All-American honors by finishing in the top five of the final ITA National Doubles Rankings.

Lipczynski capped off an outstanding freshman campaign by establishing himself as one of the premier players in the nation. Throughout the season, he consistently competed against the top talent in California and helped lead the Renegades to a successful year. His All-American selection reflects both his individual accomplishments and the impact he made in his first season.

Gonzaga and Kao formed one of the most successful doubles pairings in the state during the 2025-26 campaign. The duo showcased exceptional chemistry throughout the season and concluded their year with a semifinal appearance at the 3C2A State Championships, marking the deepest postseason doubles run by a Bakersfield College men's doubles team in at least the last five years.

Their success on the court earned national recognition and placed them among the elite doubles teams in junior college tennis.

The All-American honors continue a banner season for Bakersfield College men's tennis, which saw multiple student-athletes qualify for the 3C2A State Championships and compete among the state's best. With Lipczynski and Kao both returning next season, the future remains bright for the Renegades as they continue building upon one of the program's strongest seasons in recent memory.

Bakersfield College congratulates Mateusz Lipczynski, Axl Lajon Gonzaga, and Shang En Kao on earning ITA All-American honors and representing the Renegades on the national stage.
